- It was to run from Cumberland, Maryland to Western Virginia.
- The Turnpike Connected states after states.
- It also made manufacturing easier by transporting goods everywhere in the Nation.
- Anther good thing is that the Wagon driver had to pay a toll
- Bad news is that freight haulers increased traffic.
- “In Swampy areas, the roads were made of logs. These roads were called Corduroy roads because the roads looked like Corduroy cloths.
- These roads helped wagons from sinking in. Even though it made a bumpy ride.”(Pg. 306-307)
- They wanted to create stone bridges, but that was costly and wooden bridges rotted too quickly, so Massachusetts Carpenter created a wooden bridge with a roof to protect it from the weather. These bridges lasted much longer.
