Life between Summers Memories in motion
Life Between Summers: Memories in Motion

Based on a True Story

It was the year of 2006 to 2007 when I first started middle school and this is my story.

Two boys were walking together towards the entrance of the school, community middle school, when one said,  “ I’m really nervous because this is my first day of middle school.”

I replied, “ Doesn’t everybody?”

He said that, “ I’m on 6D.”

I said back, “I’m on 6A, so see you later.”

Now they walked in two separate paths.

Once I started to walk alone, I opened my backpack and saw that my classroom was in 712. I tried many people in order to get to room 712. I was really excited and nervous at the same time when I walked in because of was the last person in. I found my seat and opened the little red agenda on my lab table.

As my sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Rinker, talked and introduced the school and its rules, I started to get really excited to explore this vast school. I saw different wings that were huge. Then as we got back, thirty minutes later, Mrs. Rinker talked about coming back eighth period.  She also explained about clubs and activities.  She explained about the change between elementary and middle.

Then she said we’re going to find our lockers and have a small survey of the school. I found my locker, but tried numerous times until I open it. It was difficult because I never turned a lock before. I dumped all my supplies inside and closed my locker, but I accidentally put my lock on backwards. I then had to tell Mrs. Rinker and put it on the right way. We then went and surveyed the school. Along the way we saw numerous classrooms and teachers.

I saw how to get from one place to another without getting lost. We then went back to 712. When we went back, I lost my agenda and started an immediate panic. I looked everywhere and said I lost it.

For my next team class, I got lost because I was supposed to get to 320 and went to the concourse and the annex and asked numerous teachers until I finally found. (It took me nearly three whole minutes)  When I entered the social studies room of Mrs. Jones who was very nice until March or April. She said that during third period is normally snack time and we could eat snack and have morning meeting with a discussion. Then quickly the period was over. (It was a half day that day)

My next class was the easiest because the math classroom was right next to my social studies just like in seventh grade. I used my spare time to go to my locker and get my stuff. (It took me about 20 tries at first to open it in first period when we got our combo that day) Math that day was explanation and guideline of course and a pretest the next day. After math I had Orchestra or Gym, then lunch, and French. Afterwards we would go back to homeroom for the first day.

The next few weeks I’ve been practicing to open my lock and I get better every time and this skill will be carried on for the two remaining years.

As time went on without me noticing, it was already Outdoor Education. Outdoor Education was when you go on coach buses to a camp and live there for three days. You eat what the camp provides and sleep in cabins that are provided. Those cabins are hot, dirty, and no place to change.  We went to classes on the first day. I went to Problem solving, which is a class that teach you skills you would need to use in the future. Then at night we played a game called Gaga. Gaga is a game that is played on hexagon field. It plays with a ball and whoever is hit loses.

Then we went to the camp’s cafeteria to eat lunch. After the lunch we had relay races against team 6D.

The next day and the day after, we get to do all the classes and fill out the worksheets. We also have a fun activity like Rock climbing one day and Gaga the other or hiking. I had hiking, which was fun because we got to see plants and animals. The best part of the second day was the Wall. The Wall might just be my favorite because it’s rock climbing on a large wall.

That night we got to have fun around the campfire. My team roasted marshmallows and located different stars in the sky with a portable machine. We also got to see the skits and play the people all practiced. Those skits were really funny and entertaining.

On our final day we packed up in the morning and went to eat breakfast. After breakfast we went to our last few classes and left after lunch. One of my favorite classes on the last day was surveying which allows you to go to the middle of the pond and survey the water environment. We would take a kayaked or a canoe and row to the middle. At the middle we would measure and record the temperature.

I got all wet, but didn’t change because all the stuff was all packed up. I went to eat lunch and filled my portable water bottle. After lunch we exited camp and loaded the buses.

The week after Outdoor Education, we had to hand in the work and have it graded.

After Outdoor Education, we all looked forward to the end of the school year. We all worked hard in math, science, social studies and IRLA. We were so busy that we forgot that the end of the school year was almost over. About a day left we be having fun in the sun.

At the end of the year we got our yearbooks and got them signed and we headed out we best wishes in seventh grade.

When I got to seventh grade, I had to get use to several things like homework, a lot of tests, and projects.

From 6A to 7B, I had to make the transition between less homework and a lot of homework. Most of the homework and Projects come from social studies. At the beginning of seventh grade, not much different from sixth, I was told that my new social studies teacher would give a lot of homework, so I had to be prepared. At the beginning I worked really hard to give her a good impression and I continued to work hard to keep my social studies grade up.

The good part about my new social studies teacher is that she allows us to be prepared for high school and beyond and that is why she’s the best. She allows us to help out in community service by hosting a teen zone in January. She is the person responsible for Project Citizen. She’s the person who organizes Bagel Wednesday. Since I am still in her class learning about social studies and Project citizen, I really look forward to her class everyday.

As time moves quickly along, I started to help out in the first teen zone in January. I had a great time because I got to try out all these Wii games that I don’t have.

From her classes, I’ve learned a lot of knowledge that’s useful in the future. I’ve also learned on how to be helpful to the community and be proactive. That’s the greatest experience from school I will ever get.
